Roxane Coss (Moore), a well known American soprano, goes to South America to give a private show at the birthday gathering of rich Japanese industrialist Katsumi Hosokawa (Watanabe). Similarly as a great looking social affair of nearby dignitaries meets at Vice-President Ruben Ochoa's manor, including French Ambassador Thibault (Lambert) and his better half (Zylberstein), Hosokawa's loyal interpreter Gen (Kase), and Russian exchange appoint Fyorodov (Krupa), the house is assumed control by guerrillas driven by Comandante Benjamin (Huerta) requesting the arrival of their detained friends. Their solitary contact with the outside world is through Red Cross mediator Messner (Koch). Multi month long standoff follows in which prisoners and captors must defeat their disparities and locate their mutual humankind and expectation even with approaching calamity
